Virtual Airlines are the simulated airlines, which are based only on the Internet

Virtual airlines are not the real airlines but they are formed on the very concept of the real-life airlines. They exist only on the computer screen and are used just as a hobby. The virtual airlines are formed by the people who take interest in flying planes.  But due to reasons of health problems or lack of opportunity, they cannot materialize their dreams. The presence of virtual airlines on the Internet is a great consolation for these kinds of people. By participating in the flight operations of the virtual airlines, these people enjoy enormously. The virtual airlines are also a great source of information regarding various types of planes and their functions. Thus the virtual airlines may also have many interesting things for ordinary people. Though displayed only on the Internet, the virtual airlines have great similarity with that of the actual airlines. The virtual aircrafts take off for their destinations around the globe and the names of the virtual pilots are announced. The flight record of the virtual pilots is also mentioned on the websites of the virtual airlines. There are specially designed networks for the virtual airline pilots called VATSIM or IVAO. With the help of these network, life-like simulations are prepared in which the virtual pilots can contact with the control rooms and can also see the other virtual aircrafts flying with them. Thus the virtual airline companies also arrange group flight events.

The introduction of the Internet and its popularity particularly in the 1990s made the concept of virtual airlines popular in the world. BBS-operated virtual airlines were the initial virtual airlines in the world. Later on, in different parts of the world, virtual airlines were established and the people showed great interest in them. A virtual airline is also referred as VA. There are hundreds of virtual airlines present on the Internet. The most prominent among them are Thomson Virtual and British Airways Virtual. Many of them follow the hierarchy like that of the real airlines. There are virtual pilots, CEO, Chief executives, Presidents and the Vice-Presidents of the virtual airlines. They are never profit-based organizations and work only a sport for the people who take interest in flying and want to know also the structure and the organizational as well as operational set up of an airline.
